SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) modules are transceiver devices used to connect network devices to fiber optic or copper networks. They are hot-swappable, meaning they can be inserted and removed from a network device without powering down the device. SFP modules come in a variety of types, including SX (short wavelength) modules. SX SFP modules are designed to operate at 850nm, and are used to connect network devices over short distances of up to 550 meters. They are typically used in Gigabit Ethernet applications, and are compatible with both multimode and single-mode fiber. SX SFP modules are available in a range of speeds, from 100Mbps to 1Gbps.
