Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) is a compact, hot-pluggable transceiver used for both telecommunication and data communications applications. It interfaces a network device motherboard (for a switch, router, media converter or similar device) to a fiber optic or copper networking cable. SFPs are available in a variety of different form factors, such as SFP+, XFP, X2, and QSFP. They are used in Ethernet, Fibre Channel, SONET/SDH and other communications standards. SFPs are designed to support different types of network protocols and speeds, such as Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and SONET/SDH. They are also used in a variety of applications, such as data centers, enterprise networks, and service provider networks.
