Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) is a compact, hot-pluggable transceiver used for both telecommunication and data communications applications. It interfaces a network device motherboard (for a switch, router, media converter or similar device) to a fiber optic or copper networking cable. SFPs are available in a variety of different speeds, such as 1G, 10G, 25G, 40G, and 100G. They are also available in different form factors, such as SFP+, SFP28, QSFP+, and QSFP28. SFPs are used in a wide range of networking applications, including Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and SONET/SDH.
